Glasses On the Moose!

I Care International took over the Moose Lodge in Morris in a big way!  I Care Board member, Kay Willis, put glasses on the Moose out front. She came up with a great design and they fit him perfectly! The glasses grabbed your attention while pulling in and just made you smile! The Moose Staff liked it too and it sounds like they are thinking about decorating the Moose during the holidays. Great idea Kay!

I am happy to report that I Care International’s first Trivia Night Fundraiser was a success. We had a full house and it was a fun atmosphere! Most importantly, we had a lot of attendees that were hearing about I Care for the first time which made the event all the more special. Here are some highlights:

Steve Storey welcomed everyone and spoke about I Care’s mission as a non-profit and the upcoming clinic to Guatemala. This was followed by a toast to Phil led by Dave McClure. We also had students onsite to demonstrate how glass prescriptions are read prior to being packed and transported to clinics.

The tables were lined with silent auction items, raffle baskets, and some Halloween decorations to celebrate the holiday.  Some attendees even came in costume adding to the festive atmosphere. The silent auction items and raffle baskets were a hit!  We had four silent auction items:  Blackhawk’s Autographed Jersey, Stained Glass Window, Forest Print on Glass, and a Whiskey & Cigar Basket.  We also had six baskets:  Pet, Date Night, Kiss the Cook, Cool Vibe, Fitness, and Baseball.  Congratulations to our lucky winners!  Thank you to all the businesses, friends of I Care, and Board members who donated items for the auction and baskets and to Kathy Haralson who made them look so amazing!

The main event of the night was of course the trivia contest with 13 teams ferociously competing in 10 rounds of 10 questions which were led by the talented Barb Boma. It was challenging, but fun! And teamwork was key. Congratulations to the winning team, Drew’s Crew and taking second place was No Eye Deer. They received Morris Chamber of Commerce gift cards. We also had enough donations to do a surprise door prize at every trivia break and every table had a winner! Thank you to Sue Morse for donating her homemade peanut brittle and caramels to add to the choices for the door prizes.

The prize of the night, the 50/50 raffle, went to Julie Hamilton of Seneca! The winning ticket was worth $3,152, but Julie very kindly donated $1,000 back to I Care. Congratulations to you, Julie, and thank you for your incredibly generous gift to our cause.

Steve Bores kept us musically entertained throughout. There was even a spontaneous sing-a-long! It was my favorite part of the night.

To all who contributed to our event – we cannot thank you enough. We would not have had a successful fundraiser without your support! Please see the attached banner that was displayed at the event that lists all the businesses and individuals that were sponsors or donated items to make up the baskets and door prizes. I included some random pics of the evening too. We would also like to thank everyone who participated in our 50/50 raffle. The response was incredible, and it meant a lot to us to receive so many encouraging notes with your checks and ticket stubs.

Our Guatemala clinic will be here before we know it so it’s time to switch gears and start preparing!  We will keep you posted!!

I Care International held the annual 50/50 Raffle and after weeks of anticipation, the winning ticket was drawn on 10/15 at the end of the fundraiser.
