Thank you to the awesome volunteers that came to help! Kelly Davis gave a quick tutorial, we turned on the tunes, and successfully sorted all the boxes of clean labeled glasses and had fun doing it!

A thank you also goes out to the American Legion in Sheridan, Illinois, for opening their doors to I Care for our eyeglass sorting. The facility was perfect for this event. We also thank Ron Petersen and his wife, Kathy, for their support. They have stored the I Care trailer that contains the eyeglass inventory at their home for many years. Ron brings the trailer to each sorting and right before each clinic he delivers it to Ortiz Eye.

Dr. Stephen Storey has managed the eyeglass inventory standard order checklist for many years. Kelly Davis from Illinois, and Holly Naylor, Leigh Livick, and Judi Scott-Dewing from California, use the checklist as their guide when building their inventories. This is an essential step to having a successful clinic. We also have I Care veterans, Klaus and Jay from California, and Jessie Gutierrez from Chicago, supporting I Care inventories in their homes. Approximately 6,000 pairs of glasses make up an inventory. Going forward, California and Chicago will each bring half of their inventories to clinics to lessen the burden on each group while traveling.

The next step will be an additional sorting in September to file the eyeglasses chronologically by power and type (i.e., single vision vs. a bifocal or multifocal). This makes it easier for the clinic volunteers to pick just the right pair for patients.

More to come on this!
